According to the publication “One Hundred Years of Gawler Primary School” 1878 to 1978 by Jack S Clark says, [Primary School Teacher Jack Clark represented the District of Gawler in the South Australia Parliament from 1953 until 1970, when, as a result of redistribution, the boundaries changed dramatically and Gawler became part of the Light electorate]

“In 1899 Dr. R. St. Mark Dawes began the practice of awarding Dux Medals to the top boy and top girl in the senior class of the school each year. This practice was continued by his son , Dr. A. H. C. Dawes, until his death and has been carried on since.” [until 1976]
